Update on measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

Update on Legionnaires’ Cluster Associated with a Hotel in Spain

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

Outbreak of Salmonella Newport

Nurses

Our practice nurses can be seen by appointment with the receptionist and offer a variety of services including injections, ear syringing, dressings, blood pressure checks, travel advice/vaccinations, removal of stitches, cervical smears and taking blood. They also work closely with the GPs in managing chronic illnesses including asthma, heart disease and diabetes - see Clinics for further details. The nurses are assisted by our healthcare assistant Jackey Collins.

For your convenience we now employ a phlebotomist (a staff member trained to take blood) who runs clinics to take blood from patients here at the surgery on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Friday mornings. Please telephone 01494 787112 to make an appointment.

Practice Management

Nicola is our practice manager and is responsible for the general management and administration of the practice. If you have any comments, queries, suggestions or complaints concerning the practice, Nicola is available to discuss them with you and may be contacted either by telephoning or calling at the surgery between 9.00am and 5.00pm weekdays.

Administration

Each of the GPs is supported by a secretary who deals with all aspects of the doctor's administration. Reception

Our reception team comprises six members of staff: Linda Beattie and Jane Bickley, our reception co-ordinators, Carolyn Murray, Sue Bustard, Jackey Collins, Suzan Fulcher & Corinne Jeffery. They will answer patients’ queries, assist with making appointments and deal with repeat prescriptions.

Community Nurses

The district nurses are now based at Amersham Hospital and provide care for patients in their own home. If you wish to speak to the District Nursing Team please call the Chiltern Integrated Care Team on 01494 734724.

Health Visitors

Our health visitors are nurses with obstetric or midwifery experience and one-year health visitor training. They are based in the building and work within a team, with the doctor, district nurse and midwife. The health visitors are involved with teaching individuals and groups about various aspects of health. They hold antenatal and postnatal classes, fathers' evenings and mother and baby group meetings regularly. Please contact the health visitors for details on 01494 433112. We also have a school nurse based at Rectory Meadow who can be contacted on 01494 728317 during term time.
